After a construction career spanning more than thirty years, Matt Mills founded Mills Contracting alongside his son, Whit, with a mission to deliver exceptional service and quality workmanship across the state of Mississippi. Built on decades of experience and commitment to integrity, Mills Contracting has become a trusted partner for projects of all sizes and complexities.
Our team brings together 140 years of combined expertise in general contracting and design/build services. We are dedicated to delivering scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions that meet the unique needs of each project while upholding the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and craftsmanship.

Matt Mills
President
With a career that has taken him to multiple construction markets in several geographical regions, Matt brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team. Matt has had experience in project management, estimating, business development, and senior management with multiple regional and national firms.

Whit Mills
Vice President
After graduating from Mississippi State University, Whit followed his father into the construction industry. Whit has experience in estimating and project management with a regional firm. Whit has estimated and managed multiple projects across Mississippi and Tennessee ranging in value from $15,000 to over $10,000,000.

Becky Thomas
Office Administrator
With over 40 years of experience in commercial construction, Becky brings a lifetime of industry knowledge and dedication to her role at Mills Contracting. Her career began as an estimator with her family business, John Moses Electric, before serving as a contract administrator for Evan Johnson & Sons Construction. She went on to manage multi-million-dollar military projects out of state with Carothers Construction as both Contract Administrator and Alternate Quality Control Manager. Becky holds both 10 hour and 30-hour OSHA certifications, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Construction Quality Management for Contractors’ certifications and C2 Safety and Health during Disaster Recover certification.

Avery Tucker
Administrative Assistant
Avery provides vital administrative and marketing support to the Mills Contracting team. She holds a Master’s in Teaching and brings strong organization and design skills to her role. Avery manages a wide range of responsibilities including social media and website development. Her creativity and attention to detail help ensure efficient operations and a consistent, professional brand presence for the company.

Trammell Martin
Project Manager
Trammell came to Mills Contracting after spending time with a regional contractor where he was an assisitant project manager on multiple projects ranging in value from $10,000 to $3,000,000. Trammell graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Building Contruction Science. He holds both 10 hour and 30 hour OSHA cerifications.

Ashford Peyton
Project Manager
Ashford came to Mills Contracting after spending time with local civil contractor where he managed projects across the state of Mississippi. He decided to make the change from civil construction to general contracting and has not looked back. Ashford graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Building Contruction Science. He holds both 10 hour and 30 hour OSHA cerifications.

Joe Barnes
General Superintendent/Safety Director
With over 40 years of construction experience, Joe brings extensive field knowledge and leadership to Mills Contracting. He studied Turf Grass Management at Mississippi State University and completed OSHA 510 for Construction Safety Standards at the University of Alabama. Joe also holds OSHA 30 certification and is dedicated to maintaining safety, quality, and teamwork on every job site.

Logan Nelson
Project Manager
Logan earned his Bachelor of Science in Building Construction from Mississippi State University and brings valuable experience in both renovation and new construction management. He is OSHA 10- and 30-Hour Certified and takes a hands-on approach to every project, ensuring quality, safety, and strong communication throughout each phase of construction.

Nathan Johnson
Superintendent
Nathan brings hands-on experience in construction supervision and site coordination to Mills Contracting. He holds an Associate of Applied Science in Landscape Maintenance Technology from Hinds Community College. Nathan is OSHA 30-Hour Certified and licensed in Landscape Gardening by the Mississippi Bureau of Plant Industry, combining technical expertise with a practical understanding of on-site operations.

Preston McKay
Manager of Pre-Construction
Preston holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering Technology from the University of Southern Mississippi and completed coursework in Architecture at Mississippi State University. With extensive experience managing large-scale educational and commercial construction projects across Mississippi and Louisiana, he brings both technical expertise and leadership to every job. Preston is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).

Hunter Trehern
Superintendent
Hunter Trehern brings years of hands-on experience in commercial and industrial construction to his role as Superintendent at Mills Contracting. With a proven background in project leadership, site management, and team coordination, Hunter has overseen a range of large-scale construction projects from start to finish. Before joining Mills Contracting, he held key positions with Paul Jackson & Son Inc., Craft Croswell, and Shackelford Construction. Hunter holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical and Construction Engineering Technology from East Mississippi Community College.

Riley Bowman
Superintendent
Riley came to Mills Contracting following a lengthy career as an industrial maintenance supervisor. He takes a detail oriented and results driven approach, with expertise in coordinating work and maintaining utmost quality in a fast-paced environment. Riley has overseen countless large industrial projects throughout his career and is a certified API-510 pressure vessel inspector.
