Roosevelt State Park
Cabin Renovations
The project at Roosevelt State Park in Morton, Mississippi focused on the preservation and modernization of the historic Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) cabins, originally constructed between 1938 and 1945. These cabins hold significant historical culture value, and the renovation work balanced maintaining their heritage while providing modern amenities. This project consisted of work across multiple cabin sites which included roof demolition and reconstruction, kitchen cabinet removal and replacement, flooring and wall refinishing, and relocation of a waterline. Drainage improvements were performed, including installation of a French drain dowelled into the existing and concrete landing, electrical upgrades including new outlets and interior and exterior lights and switches, and interior finish touch-ups including paint, sheetrock, and siding repair.
The work also included extensive upgrades to ensure guest comfort and enhance the park’s lodging offerings. These renovations included stainless steel appliances, flat-screen TVs, and electric remote controlled fireplaces, while also adding screened-in porches with scenic views of Shadow Lake. Outdoor amenities were improved with a grill, fire pit, and picnic tables.

City of Starkville
Needmore Community Center
The Needmore community is one of the earliest African American neighborhoods in Starkville. The building is managed by Starkville Parks and Recreation and available to reserve for gatherings. Interesting things to note about the building are its glulam beam construction, hydraulic bi-fold doors, stamped concrete patio, and high-end landscaping inclusive of a bioswale drainage system. A particularly special component is the mural painted by Deborah Mansfield that depicts many influential residents and businesses both present day and from years past.

Hinds County Courthouse
ADA Renovations
This ADA renovation of the historic Hinds County Courthouse was mandated by a federal court order to improve accessibility while preserving historic character. Mills Contracting converted three offices into ADA restrooms on the first, second, and third floors, which required core drilling new sewer and domestic water lines from the third floor to the basement to create a full plumbing stack. In the main courtroom, the jury box and witness stand were reconfigured with modified historic railings and a TL Shield Invisible Lift, four pews were shortened to provide ADA clear space, power and data lines were trenched beneath the well floor, and new carpet was installed. To address a 6” elevation difference, raised subfloors and ramps were built in the corridor and jury deliberation room, ensuring seamless wheelchair access between spaces. The deliberation room also received reconfigured restrooms, new millwork, flooring, paint, signage, and modified historic door frames. Finally, ADA-compliant door hardware was installed on more than 200 doors across all six floors. Together, these improvements provided ADA access throughout the courthouse while maintaining its historic integrity.
